Environmental Horticulture

About the Program

The Environmental Horticulture program offers an AS in Environmental Horticulture, and four Certificates of Achievement. The Certificate of Achievement in Environmental Horticulture focuses on growing, maintaining, and designing with plants and flowers and on skills and knowledge pertinent to several fields of study within the Environmental Horticulture industry. The Certificate of Achievement in Plant Protection prepares students to take the California Department of Pesticide Regulation PCA exams.

Career Opportunities

The outlook for jobs in Environmental Horticulture is excellent. With over 2,000 potential employers in the North State. The major occupations include floriculture, nursery production, landscaping, sales, park maintenance, turfgrass management, research, ag education, and retail nursery and floriculture. Butte College's programs are designed to give students skills necessary for entry-level positions in the various horticulture industries. An AS degree enhances an individual's opportunity to advance into supervisory positions. A two- or four-year degree is a job requirement in some businesses and government agencies.
